WHEN AND WHERE ARE YOUR CLASSES?
On Mondays at 7pm at Penryn Campus Sports Centre and on a Tuesday at 6.30pm at New Era Fitness Club. For the Monday class you book with Sports Centre directly. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
For Monday night prices, please contact Penryn Campus Sports Centre for an up to date price list. Tuesday nights are £5 per session and you pay on arrival.
WHAT IS ZUMBA?
A group exercises class involving mixed intensity movement set to exciting Latin and global rhythms, including Salsa, Merengue, Bhangra, Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Flamenco & Samba. Zumba is the creation of Columbian fitness instructor Beto Perez, who after leaving his fitness cassettes at home one day, had to improvise there and then with the Latin music he had in his car! And so Zumba was born!
HOW LONG IS A CLASS?
A typical class is an hour. We start with a super easy warm up of around ten minutes, followed by a dozen or so routines set to different music from around - so around half to three quarters of an hour of "working out" finishing with a fun cooldown and stretch of around ten minutes.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO DO?
I will show you! Watch and follow me - I will cue and guide you througout the class. And don't worry... we keep the routines for several weeks so that you get the chance to do them again and again and really nail them.
I'M NEW TO FITNESS
No problem! Zumba caters for all abilities and fitness levels and it's absolutely no problem to work at your own pace. Zumba is not competitive. When we learn each routine we learn to map out the steps in a really easy way and as your fitness and confidence grows you will soon find your own style and personality come through.. you won't be able to help it!
I'M FIT, SO IT'S TOO EASY?
So at the risk of saying "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" I'll echo what's said above, that it's a class where you really can put as little or as much into it as you like. From professional athletes, through to personal trainers and academy trained dancers, I've had many people leave surprised (in a good way) at what a solid full body workout it really is.
I CAN'T DANCE
I don't believe you....nope....but just to put your mind at rest, first and foremost this is fitness class not a dance class. We use influences from dance styles, but the emphasis is very much on simple movement to work the whole body. There is a lot of repetition within each routine we do, so you get time to really learn the steps, plus we keep the same routines for a long time meaning even if you don't get it the first time, you will have plenty of chances to have a go next time.
I STRUGGLE WITH LEFT & RIGHT
As said. Really does not matter. Zumba is taught predominantly using visual cues rather than verbal cues..so I will SHOW you what to do rather than TELL you.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Comfort is the key.. so clothing that allows you to move freely and stay cool and a good pair of trainers. I'd recommend a sports trainer (as opposed to a fashion trainer) that does not have too much grip on the sole. More often than not "studio" or "cross trainers", are better in this regards than a "running" shoe. No heels, flip flops, bare feet or sandals.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING ?
Bring a bottle of water to sip during the class and a warm top for when you leave the class as your body starts to cool down.
IS IT OPEN TO ALL AGES?
This class is open to anyone ages 16 and up although participants between 16-18 will need to be accompanied by someone over 18.
I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION
Zumba is a great way to get fit and stay fit but if you are at all concerned about your ability to take part in this (or any other) class safely, please consult with your doctor before coming along. Participation is strictly at your own risk.
PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY
The classes I teach are through facilties that hire me to teach you and classes that I run myself. In both cases there will be a registration process.
